BCLI announces selection of new Executive Director

The British Columbia Law Institute / Canadian Centre for Elder Law is pleased to announce the selection of a new Executive Director, Kathleen Cunningham, B. Comm, LL.B, MPS, TEP to lead BCLI effective June 1, 2015.
Jim Emmerton, current Executive Director, is scheduled to retire June 30, 2015.
Called to the bar of the Law Society of British Columbia in 1986, Ms. Cunningham is a distinguished lawyer with particular expertise in trust law and law reform. Ms. Cunningham’s career includes extensive experience in estate, trust and adult guardianship matters through her work for RBC Wealth Management, and with the Public Guardian & Trustee of British Columbia. She has been an active member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP Canada) since 1999, and is a Canadian representative on the STEP Worldwide Council and is a Co-chair of the BC Association of Community Response Networks. Well known to BCLI, Ms. Cunningham served as a Director of BCLI from 2007-2009 and as a Committee member on BCLI’s Modernization of the Trustee Act project and on BCLI’s Undue Influence project.
BCLI’s Chair, Prof. Joost Blom, QC, said, “BCLI is very pleased with the appointment of Ms. Cunningham as the new Executive Director. Ms. Cunningham brings the skills, expertise and experience to continue the very positive development of BCLI and the Canadian Centre for Elder Law.”
