The Law Reform Commission of Hong Kong has just published a final report that caps off its project on third-party funding for arbitration. An update on the public consultation on complex stratas

It’s been just over two months since BCLI published the Strata Property Law (Phase Two) Project Committee’s Consultation Paper on Complex Stratas (PDF). So we’re at about the half-way point for this public consultation on reforms to the Strata Property Act’s approach to sections, types, and phases. So far, the committee has received 22 responses, with eight of the responses coming to the full consultation (PDF) and 14 coming to the summary consultation (MS Word). Read more…

Manitoba Law Reform Commission seeking comments on reforming the small-claims system in Manitoba

The Manitoba Law Reform Commission is asking the public for comments on Manitoba’s small claims court. Published as part of the commission’s Access to Courts and Court Processes Project, the Consultation Report on Improving the Small Claims System in Manitoba (PDF) makes five provisional recommendations for comment: The monetary limit under the Small Claims Practices Act should be increased. BC Supreme Court upholds limited common property designation in the face of a claim of significant unfairness

Chen v The Owners, Strata Plan VR1856, 2016 BCSC 1946, involved a dispute over a deck in a two-unit strata property located on the Vancouver waterfront.
